Could Hamilton’s positive PR signal the return of investors?

If you’ve been following the headlines lately, all signs are pointing to the return of investors to the property market, helped along by Hamilton’s positive press and some very welcome incentives for investors.

A recent update has been news of the government’s decision to reintroduce tax deductibility. From 1 April, property investors will be able to claim 80% of their interest expenses as a cost for tax purposes, and 100% from 1 April 2025.

There are three reasons to celebrate this move: this makes rental property investment more attractive; as investors buy up more properties, renters will have greater choice over time; and the financial boost for landlords means the current pressure on rising rents could ease.

Adding to this, our sales team advise us that the number of listings coming to market is increasing, which gives investors more choice and confidence that the market is getting back on its feet.

And not surprising locals in the least, Hamilton is now officially New Zealand’s fastest-growing city, overtaking Tauranga who held the top spot for 27 years. Hamilton grew 3.4% between June 2022 and June 2023 – faster than any other region.

While tenant enquiries and applications continue at the high levels we saw at the end of 2023, these updates have certainly put a spring in our step, and we’re looking ahead to the remainder of the year with renewed energy.

Promoter scores signal trust and confidence in Lodge

It’s often said that third-party endorsement speaks louder than any amount of advertising, so we’re thrilled to share that Lodge City Rentals achieved an outstanding result in the latest Net Promoter Score (NPS) round.

The NPS is a proven metric used globally to measure customer engagement and advocacy and establishes the likelihood of someone recommending your product or service on a scale of 1-10. To calculate the score, the percentage of customers who are ‘detractors’ (not likely to recommend) are subtracted from the percentage of customers who are ‘promoters’ (likely to recommend), which returns a score between -100 and +100 and equals the NPS.

Lodge City Rentals scored an impressive 71% for the 2023 year. Such a positive score is even more relevant in a time where it can be all too quick to make and pass on negative comments; a high NPS for our team speaks volumes.
