If you're planning on entering the real estate industry there are some things you need to know.
- Every person wanting to practice real estate must obtain a Salesperson's Licence from the Real Estate Agents Authority before being able to work in the industry.
- You then become an independent contractor, running your own business under the umbrella of the Lodge Real Estate brand.

Your pathway into real estate sales
Interview with Branch Manager
To give you an idea of what you're getting into, the first step is an informal chat with one of our Branch Managers. Feel free to contact them directly, or contact our Operations Manager Jo Dwyer and she'll get someone to get in touch.
Interview with Managing Director
After speaking with a Branch Manager, if you're still keen to become a real estate salesperson you'll meet with Jeremy O'Rourke to discuss our company culture, our values and why working with Lodge gives you the best chance to succeed in real estate.
Skills or Polytech course
In order to apply for your Real Estate licence you must gain a NZ Certificate in Real Estate (level 4). This is an intensive six-month online course where you cover all aspects of real estate sales. We'll connect you with a provider who can help you achieve this.
Apply to REA for licence
Once you have passed your NZ Certificate in Real Estate you can then apply to the Real Estate Authority (REA) for your real estate licence.
Profile & collateral created
While you cannot sell real estate until your licence is issued, we'll work with you to get your branding sorted so you're ready to launch from day one. This includes taking photos, writing your profile, and creating your Lodge branded marketing collateral.
REA issues licence
Congratulations! You are now a licenced real estate consultant. You are now able to conduct real estate transactions on behalf of an agency.
Independent contract signed
You cannot sell real estate on your own initially, you must work with a licenced agency. That's us! We'll provide you with a contract so you can become part of the Lodge team.
Start with Lodge
Day one of your future in real estate! Even though you've done your certificate there's still plenty to learn, so you'll be taking part in our six-week induction training program.
